Embracing Motherhood: My First Two Months with Baby Grant
It’s been an incredible journey, exactly eight weeks since I officially stepped into the most profound role of my life: becoming a mom. These past two months have been a whirlwind of emotion, a beautiful blend of joy, wonder, and undeniable love. I’ve had the immense privilege of witnessing the rapid, almost miraculous growth of a tiny human, a process that still leaves me in awe every single day. While the nights have certainly transformed into a series of 1-2 hour sleep increments, each wake-up is filled with a unique tenderness as I tend to my son. This period has been nothing short of pure bliss, overflowing with an enormous amount of love that truly defies description.
Beyond the Baby Blues: My Unique Postpartum Experience
When people talk about the postpartum period, there’s often a common narrative: the sleep-deprived, exhausted mom battling the baby blues. While I deeply empathize with those experiences, my own journey through these initial weeks has taken a somewhat different path. And I feel it’s important to share my authentic experience, not to brag, but to offer a different perspective and acknowledge the privileges I’ve had. Yes, the uninterrupted seven-hour stretches of sleep I once knew are a distant memory. However, I am fortunate enough to still accumulate those seven hours of rest, interspersed with manageable 30-60 minute breaks every couple of hours. This is largely thanks to having the luxury of dedicating a generous 10-12 hour window to sleep each night.
I must confess, I don’t know how I would have navigated this monumental transition without the unwavering support of my incredible mother. She journeyed all the way from Mongolia to be by my side, offering invaluable help as I embraced this new chapter of motherhood. Her presence allowed me to truly savor and enjoy every waking moment with my little boy, easing the anxieties and challenges that often accompany being a first-time parent. Her wisdom, experience, and tireless assistance created a sanctuary for me to bond with Grant without feeling overwhelmed. (Thank you, Mom, from the bottom of my heart. I love you more than words can say!)

And just like that, in a matter of days, my sweet baby will be two months old! It feels absolutely surreal. Part of me feels like an entire lifetime has passed since I welcomed him into the world, while another part believes it all happened in the blink of an eye. The speed at which he’s growing and changing is astonishing.
I vividly recall that very first night we brought him home. Sleep was an impossible concept. Instead, I spent the hours just staring at his perfect, tiny form, needing to ensure he was sleeping comfortably, watching his little belly rise and fall with each breath. My body screamed for rest, yet my mind was completely wired, consumed by a protective instinct. If you’re a new parent, I’m sure you can relate to this intense, watchful phase. Or perhaps I was just an unusually anxious first-time mom! Eventually, my husband had to gently coax me into another room, promising he would watch over Grant non-stop so I could finally get some much-needed sleep. Now, I’ve learned to “sleep when the baby sleeps,” a mantra often preached to new moms. Yet, the lightest peep, the softest sigh from him, instantly pulls me from my slumber. Who am I? This new version of myself, so attuned to every tiny sound, is almost unrecognizable, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Baby Grant’s Incredible Milestones: Two Months of Growth and Discovery
In the past eight weeks, Grant has transformed in countless ways. His growth and development have been truly remarkable. Here are some of the most heartwarming highlights from his first two months:
-
Doubling His Birth Weight: Our Little Chubby Chubs
At this point, our little Grant has impressively doubled his birth weight! He’s quickly earning his nickname as our “chubby chubs,” and from the looks of it, he’s destined to have some serious rolls – a true future sumo wrestler in the making! It’s incredible to see how well he’s feeding and thriving, a clear sign of his healthy development.
-
First Coos and Conversations: The Joy of Early Communication
He is cooing! Oh, how we absolutely adore it when he’s in a talkative mood. Those sweet, melodic sounds are his first attempts at communication, and they fill our home with immense joy. If you’ve caught any of our updates on Snapchat, you’ve probably witnessed these precious moments firsthand. It’s a thrill to hear him “chatting” away, responding to our voices with his own delightful babbling.
-
That First Conscious Smile: A Moment of Pure Bliss
Just a couple of weeks ago, my baby boy surprised me with the most beautiful, conscious, wide-awake smile while looking directly at me! It was a moment etched forever in my memory. His happy, toothless grin radiated such pure joy that it brought a happy tear to my own eyes. Now, when he’s not in his usual serious “thinking” mode, he generously offers big, happy smiles to everyone around him. He’s simply too cute; my heart can barely handle it!
-
Focusing on the World: Grant’s Newfound Curiosity
Grant is also starting to truly focus on things around him. His little eyes now track toys, faces, and even the TV (in moderation, of course!). It’s utterly adorable to watch him intently stare at everyday objects like a bare wall, the ceiling, or a light fixture, as if uncovering the mysteries of the universe. This developing focus is a wonderful sign of his cognitive growth and increasing awareness of his surroundings.
-
Bath Time Bliss: A Favorite Ritual
And last but certainly not least, he absolutely loves his bath time! It’s become a cherished ritual where he splashes, coos, and relaxes in the warm water. Seeing him so content and happy during his baths is one of the simple pleasures of our day.
I truly can’t wrap my head around how fast he’s growing already. Someone, please, stop the time for just a little bit so I can savor every fleeting moment!

Behind the Perfect Shot: The Beautiful Chaos of New Parenthood
This perfectly happy family portrait you’re looking at right now may convey an image of everything being perfectly under control, but in reality, capturing this moment was an exercise in beautiful chaos! CHAOS, I tell you! One minute, Grant would be all smiles and giggles, the next, he’d be spitting up left and right, then suddenly tired and fussy. The whirlwind of a newborn’s ever-changing moods can make even the simplest task, like taking a family photo, feel like a monumental achievement. Yet, amidst the unpredictability, we managed to snap a few truly perfect shots. For that, I am incredibly thankful, as these images beautifully encapsulate the joy and the delightful pandemonium of new parenthood.

The Priceless Value of Family Support: Transitioning to Life Without Grandma
As I mentioned earlier, having my mom here, helping me out full-time, has been an absolute godsend. Her presence allowed me to truly immerse myself in the beginning of motherhood without much of the typical stress. I cannot emphasize this enough: I would highly, highly recommend accepting any and all help offered by your family and friends when you have a baby. It truly makes a world of difference in your emotional and physical recovery, allowing you to focus on bonding with your newborn.
Unfortunately, my amazing mom just went back to Mongolia this weekend. The thought of navigating our days without her constant support fills me with a mix of gratitude for her time here and a little trepidation for what lies ahead. I honestly have no idea how things are going to be from now on, as we adjust to this new dynamic. Please check back in a few weeks to see how I’m surviving this next phase! Thank goodness for my incredible husband, who will be stepping up to be in charge of Grant during the evenings. His support is going to be more crucial than ever.

If you’re a new parent, you know the struggle: tiny socks and mittens that seem to vanish into thin air or fall off with the slightest wiggle. These specific socks and mittens are truly awesome because they actually stay on! They cling securely to my baby’s tiny feet and hands, preventing those frustrating moments of searching for lost apparel and ensuring he stays warm and scratch-free. If your baby is constantly losing their socks or mittens, seriously look into these – they are a game-changer.

Snuza Baby Movement Monitor: Peace of Mind for Anxious Parents
This little device is truly your key to worry-free, good night’s sleep. As first-time parents, the list of anxieties can be endless, and one of the biggest concerns is often, “Is the baby still breathing?” The Snuza monitor clips onto the baby’s diaper and detects abdominal movement. This small device truly gives us an immense piece of mind, especially during those deep sleeps. My mom, who raised four kids without such gadgets, initially thought it was silly, but for me, as a new parent in this day and age, I absolutely love it nonetheless for the reassurance it provides.

This fun little device, affectionately known as the “snotsucker,” is one of the greatest inventions for babies yet! This “magic water” has saved us countless times! Administering it during a gassy episode brings relief within minutes, and thankfully, baby Grant loves its taste. I truly cannot say enough good things about Gripe Water. If you’re expecting, I highly recommend stocking up – it’s a lifesaver for those uncomfortable gas pains!
