Anticipation Builds: Our Family is Expanding with Baby #2!
The air in our home is thick with excitement, anticipation, and a touch of delightful chaos. Why, you ask? Because our second little munchkin is set to arrive ANY DAY NOW! We are on the very cusp of becoming a family of four, and the journey to this moment has been nothing short of extraordinary. The nursery is complete, every tiny onesie has been meticulously washed and folded, and my incredible mom is here, ready to lend her invaluable support. My body, however, is barely hanging in there, my belly an undeniable testament to the incredible life growing within. The readiness is overwhelming – a potent mix of excitement, sheer terror, boundless happiness, and a healthy dose of anxiety. We are truly ready to welcome this sweet soul into our world.

Grant’s Grand Promotion: Ready to Be a Big Brother?
One of the biggest questions swirling in our minds revolves around our firstborn, Grant. He just celebrated his two-and-a-half-year milestone, a testament to how quickly time truly flies. Does he truly grasp the monumental shift that is about to occur? It’s hard to say for sure. He lovingly hugs and kisses “the baby” in mommy’s belly, a gesture that melts our hearts every time. He’s also seen all the new baby gear populating our home, from the crib to the endless stacks of diapers. While we’ve tried our best to prepare him, talking about his new role as a big brother, the real test will come the moment he meets his new sibling.
Grant is a remarkably gentle and affectionate toddler, so my hopes are high for a smooth and loving transition. Still, a part of me feels a profound wave of emotion knowing he will no longer be our “one-and-only.” It’s a bittersweet feeling many parents experience, and I’m committed to ensuring he receives just as much love and attention as before, even as our family expands. Balancing the needs of two little ones will be a new adventure, but one we’re eager to embrace.
A Glimpse into the Journey: My Pregnancy Recap
Thankfully, this pregnancy has been relatively smooth, mirroring many of the symptoms and experiences of my first pregnancy. However, navigating pregnancy with a spirited toddler in tow certainly adds a unique layer of challenge and exhaustion. Here’s a quick journey through the trimesters:
The First Trimester: A Fog of Fatigue
Ah, the first trimester – a period I affectionately refer to as the season of extreme exhaustion! Right after Thanksgiving, a profound weariness enveloped me, making even the simplest tasks feel Herculean. This wasn’t just typical tiredness; it was a deep, bone-weary fatigue coupled with a severe aversion to screen time. My computer, blogs, and even beloved TV shows held no appeal. It was a déjà vu from my previous pregnancy, but with a two-year-old demanding constant attention, the fatigue felt amplified tenfold. There were days I feared this exhaustion would last forever, making it difficult to keep up with daily life and my professional commitments. Fortunately, I was spared intense morning sickness, experiencing only mild queasiness. For that, I am incredibly grateful, counting my blessings for what felt like a relatively “easy” first trimester compared to some stories I’ve heard.
The Second Trimester: A Burst of Energy and Appetite
The dawn of my second trimester felt like emerging from a fog. It began spectacularly with our wonderful trip to Hawaii at the end of January, a perfect babymoon and a much-needed escape. With the new trimester came a glorious return of energy and motivation. I was able to tackle work projects with renewed vigor, stay up a little later, and generally feel more like myself again. This energy surge, however, came with a side effect: an absolutely ENORMOUS appetite! I craved everything, especially carbs, spicy dishes, and, of course, french fries. It felt like I wanted to eat non-stop, and honestly, that craving hasn’t entirely subsided! This trimester was undoubtedly my favorite, full of vitality and culinary delights.
March 7th: The Gender Reveal and Heartfelt Reflections
March 7th marked a truly special day: our 20-week anatomy scan. This appointment wasn’t just about ensuring our baby’s healthy development; it was also the day we would finally learn the gender! I’ll be completely honest here: my heart was secretly set on a girl. For the entire first 20 weeks of my pregnancy, I tried to temper my expectations, reminding myself there was a 50% chance of having another boy. I even picked out a girl’s name, indulging in the dream. Yet, I braced myself. The big day arrived, and with joyous hearts, we learned we were indeed expecting another boy. It seems I am destined to be a “BOY MOM,” and what an honor that is! There was no disappointment, only overwhelming love. Boys are undeniably fun, kind, and oh-so-sweet, and I adore my son Grant more than words can say. However, there was a tiny, wistful pang of sadness as I gently let go of my long-held dream of having a daughter. It’s a natural part of the journey, allowing space for the beautiful reality that unfolds.
Just as we did with Grant, we celebrated the news by stopping at a store immediately after the appointment to pick out the first tiny onesie set for our newest little man. It was unbelievably cute and solidified the reality of our growing family even further.

The Third Trimester: Navigating New Challenges
Boy, has this third trimester brought its unique set of challenges! I am quite literally “all belly,” carrying my baby predominantly upfront. While this often sparks compliments, it has been incredibly hard on my back. The constant strain, compounded by frequently picking up my active toddler and engaging in work that demands lots of bending – like photoshoots and filming recipe videos – has pushed my back to its limits. Severe back pain, sciatica, and even a pinched nerve have become unwelcome companions. Simple movements that once came naturally are now arduous tasks, making everyday life a physical endeavor.
Recognizing the importance of listening to my body and prioritizing my health and the baby’s, I made the conscious decision to slow down. I’ve temporarily halted working on new recipes for the blog. While I’m still very much in the kitchen, cooking and baking our family’s favorite comforting dishes, I’m doing so without the added pressure of bending over to capture perfect photos. I sincerely hope you’ll understand this temporary pause in new recipe content. I plan to take a month or so off from posting anything fresh. Once our little munchkin arrives and we’ve had some time to settle into our new rhythm as a family of four, I’ll be back, eager to share many new and delicious recipes with all of you.
